How to finish off a good bias binding collar

How many times have you seen yourself with a bias binding collar, and you didn’t know how to finish it off perfectly?

Well, here I show you a way to do it in a simple way and it looks great. This little tutorial has been made by one of my tester of the witch pattern and the truth is that it couldn’t be better.

You can make you own stretch bias by cutting a strip of fabric 1.5in wide and 28.5in long (or mesure 80% + seam allowance)
Fold bias in half wrong side together, open then each side to the middle of it and press prior to installation.

·         place bias right side to wrong side of the dress inside the collar and spread evenly
sew with stretch stitch of your choice
·         fold bias twice as per picture to cover the seam
·         Clip in place it should look like this
·         Sew in place close to the edge with the preferred top stitching method, making sure that the seam is not showing.

Now you can finish off all bias binding collars in your knitted garments with this quick and easy method. They will be finished to perfection and without much effort. you have this and more tutorials in my Instagram.

Christmas outfits: traditional or elegant

This may be the question you ask yourself the most when you are thinking about what to wear for the holidays. Should I choose a traditional Christmas outfit or something more elegant? Will I be overdressed or too casual?

To help you choose something according to your style I am going to leave these two ideas of outfits for each style to inspire you.

DIY Traditional Christmas Outfit

If you already know me you know that I love to make my own clothes and at Christmas I always use to release a special dress for these dates. And this year that everything is back to normal it was the right one. Now that we are all going to get together as a family, I want to wear something unique and special made by myself.

Victorian Christmases are my favorite and I think they best represent classic traditional Christmases, and one of my most inspired movies is Little Women.

And from that movie comes this outfit for Christmas in red and green tartan. They are the colors of Christmas and when I saw this fabric in the store it called me “buy me, buy me”.

Fabric, pattern and materials to make this Christmas outfit

In this case I used a fabric that I bought in a store in my town. It is a medium weight cotton tartan with a red fabric to make the collar and cuffs. It has an invisible zipper on one side.

The pattern for this dress is the peter pan collar dress, which you can find on my website. Also in projector, A4 and A0 format.

Elegant Christmas Outfit

Not to say that the other one is not elegant, but this dress is more classic and we usually associate it more with a more sober style. This simple and fitted dress has the detail of the lantern sleeves and the gathering at the waist. It doesn’t need any extra details, so it’s perfect.

It is very simple and quick to create, you can have it in an afternoon (if you don’t have children who can interrupt you) and release it for Christmas or New Year’s Eve.

Fabric, materials and pattern

The fabric I have chosen is a bottle green Scuba neoprene fabric from Pugutextile. It has some stretch and since it has no zipper you can put it on and take it off without it bothering you. And you can even eat without worrying about the dress being too tight.

The pattern is this Bodycon Milan dress that you have on my website in sizes from XS to 6XL. You can no longer say that there is no dress in your size. You have it in A4, A0 and projector format.

Maxi skirts can be worn for any occasion.

It may seem to you that this type of maxi skirts is only for the day-to-day and a casual and informal casual look, but much further from reality.

This month these long maxi skirts are one of the ones I had to test with my testers. And they have created some real wonders in many styles and for all sizes.

Here are some ideas to inspire you for a more casual look for every day or for your nights out. This pattern is very easy to make and fun to sew. The results will surprise you because of how easy it is to make at home.

As you can see you can wear it with sweaters, romantic blouses or a simple t-shirt. Wear heels so that the skirt rides up and doesn’t drag you down. Or sew the short version at the knees so it won’t get in the way when you dance.

And if you want it for a more formal evening or even a wedding. You can make it with a chiffon fabric like this one created by another one of my tester.

Boho skirt pattern

In my Facebook group, I look for tester every month. I encourage you to join. In the group I also answer questions and help you with whatever you need with the patterns.

If you like this pattern and you feel like sewing it, here is the link to the product.

Be a sewing pattern tester

A few months ago I opened my own group on Facebook so that all of you who have bought or are interested in my brand can comment, search for information, help each other and I can help you with instructions, patterns, or any questions you may have.

I’m also looking for tester of my patterns and I usually do it through my social networks, my web subscription list, and also in this Facebook group. Any of you can be a tester as long as you have the measurements or sizes that my patterns are made in.

Every month there is a pattern to try as a deadline to sign up apart from being in the Facebook group, whenever you have Facebook, you must fill out a form specifying the size, the type of pattern format you use, and the pattern you want to try.

The duration is usually two weeks to make the patterns. You have all the information you need to know about the type of fabric recommended, the amount of fabric, and the measurements of that dress. It also includes instructions on how to join the patterns and in some cases a photograph of a previous sample so that you can see what the pattern will look like once it is finished. They are all for women, I don’t make children’s clothes, although some sizes could be suitable for teenagers.

The patterns are only sent by email in digital format and in no case will they be sent on paper, you have to be attentive to the email so that you don’t miss the deadline. Always look in your spam folder because there are times when it gets there.

Which pattern to try this month

For this month the pattern we are going to try on is going to be a medieval dress for this Halloween. It can also be used for the medieval fairs that are organized in spring and summer. It is a fairly simple dress but it requires a considerable amount of fabric as it is quite flouncy and long.

The recommended fabric is a cotton although you can do it in wool for winter. In the description of the product that you have below comes everything that it contains. It also comes in A4, A0 or projector format for what is to make the pattern in the format you want. You have to say it in the form that I leave you here below. You must also sign up to the Facebook group where a special thread is made for each pattern and we all comment on the doubts or problems that arise with the instructions or with the patterns.

I am quite active in this group, and I am helping you with all the doubts that arise when it comes to making the pattern. The deadline for registration of this pattern is October 4.

Conditions to be a tester

Only two patterns can be tested per year. You can do two in winter, two in summer or one from each session. In the facebook group you have all the conditions to be a tester. There is also an affiliate program where you can only join once you have completed the pattern test and sent the photos and only for that pattern. If I haven’t received the photos you can’t be an affiliate.

In the Facebook group, you also have the calendar of all the patterns that are going to be able to be tried in the autumn-winter season that finishes in February. If you like someone other than this pattern wait until the date of registration of that pattern, you have everything in the Facebook group. Once the deadline opens you can apply for that pattern.

Remember that if you have not sent the photos or done the pattern test you will automatically be removed from the list and will not be able to try any other pattern.

Combination of colors for each typology

When it comes to colors, they always say less is more. And I personally prefer not to put more than three different colors in the look including those of the accessories and makeup. The combination of colors is a bit more complicated if you use prints, but for now, we go with the plain ones.

For me, neutral colors (beige, white, tan, cream, gray, and even black), I don’t consider the color as such, but they help to lower the look and are an excellent joker.

In this post, I show you how to combine the colors for a complete look for each typology with the patterns you saw in the previous entry on the fabrics.

Types and Combination of colors

Colors also express emotions and do not produce sensations, so it is very important to know how to use them and how to do it.

These looks can be combined very well with each other and form up to 5 different looks. Each one is combinable between them so you will always have the right combinations.

Basic rules about colors

These tips are for all types:

  • Dark colors are thinning, hiding, and sinking.
  • Light colors fatten, emphasize, and stand out.
  • Matte conceals
  • Glow accentuates

With these tips in mind, you can now get dressed with what you want to achieve in mind.

Combination of colors

WINTER

These bright and cold colors will bring you, seriousness, security, and youth.

Combinación de colores

FALL

These warm colors mostly bring you, accessibility, calm, tranquility.

Combination of colors

Fabrics: Combinations for each pattern

When it comes to sewing, you look for the fabrics you like the most and sometimes you don’t take into account the recommendations given in the instructions on the fabrics and their combinations to use.

When you put in fabric recommendations, it’s because those fabrics will look great in that pattern and you’ll get the best out of it.

I usually put generic fabrics in the instructions. I mean, cotton, linen, etc. There are many cotton and linen fabrics that do not have to be cotton as such. They can be twill, gabardine, poplin, etc. Other times I put the fabric in concrete because I have used it in the model and it looks like I have imagined it.

I have chosen the most basic patterns in which you can make all the fabric combinations you want, and they will always look like you have dreamed of.

How to choose fabrics and their combinations

Although you may think it’s silly, fabrics condition a lot a pattern and not all of them are going to look as good as you see them in the store. And to know how to choose the fabrics it’s good to ask the right questions and in this post, you can see what they are.

Let’s go to the combinations:

To create this crop top, I chose a printed fabric that is light and opaque georgette crepe.

And a slightly thinner polyester poplin. In fact this fabric is the one I used in the model along with a cotton.

fabric combination

For this boat neckline top the fabrics I have chosen are (from top to bottom):

  1. Muslin. Light and opaque.
  2. Viscose crepe. Thin, textured, and opaque.
  3. Medium Creton. Stronger and more rigid than the other three.
telas combinación

For the Gypsy skirt, the combinations are very varied and you can make many combinations of fabric types and colors. (From top to bottom).

Medium cotton. For skirts with more body and volume.

Satin Crepe, Fine with a rough texture that gives more design to the skirt. Highly recommended for something sophisticated.

Medium Creton. Same as medium cotton but more transparent.

Telas combinación

High-waisted shorts don’t have to be just denim. The combinations are endless and not only for summer but also in winter.

Medium cotton. A good substitute for denim. Thinner, lighter and fresher.

Linen. Summer basics. There are several weights. Take the thickest one so you don’t have any contingencies.

Gabardine. It’s the denim but thinner. It has a very similar feel but there is a more variety of colors.

So much for this week’s entry. Knowing the fabrics and their properties will make you create the clothes you have dreamed of. Because it is not only worth that they are sewn wonderfully, with a color and some prints to die for if the fabric does not show all that.

Change woven pattern to knit

Most patterns tend to come for only one type of fabric. This can be woven (no elasticity) or knitted (elastic). I’m going to show you how to change a woven pattern to knit.

Doing it the other way around is more difficult because you need to make tweezers and that requires knowledge of pattern making and tailoring. Although now almost all designers make the same pattern for both types of fabrics. In my case, it’s just a few designs. Others look better with woven fabric because of their cuts or the volume they must have.

Let’s get started then.

The first thing is to remove the darts. To do this, you must close them so as not to lose your waist and chest measurements.

woven to kint

Once both darts are closed, we give a little shape to the sides. Make sure they’re both symmetrical. And in the back equal with the same measure of sides so that it fits us when sewing the pieces.

And that’s how you change a woven pattern to knit. You just have to take into account all the measurements so that it matches and fits on the body.

Download the base pattern to make these changes and always have a base to make the necessary changes in all the patterns you want to change. So you only have to copy this one, in which you want to change without destroying the other one.
